Aero Med

The Leader in Air Transport & Critical Care Patient Management

Aero Med Spectrum Health provides emergency care and helicopter transport from the scene of accidents and from community hospitals to Spectrum Health's tertiary care hospitals.

Aero Med Spectrum Health is a physician-staffed medical transport program. We serve West Michigan and other regions in Michigan as needed.

Aero Med will transport to other non-Spectrum Health receiving hospitals in our service area upon confirmation of an accepting physician and facility.

Service Description

A call to the Aero Med Flight Communications Center provides:

  • adult and pediatric critical care
  • perinatal high risk obstetrics
  • rapid response to scene calls (trauma or medical)
  • neonatal transports
  • non-critical, pediatric ground transportation in association with Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital
  • specialty cardiac services in association with Meijer Heart Center

Clinical Team

Aero Med is nationally recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). The flight team can include a flight physician, pilot, and a flight nurse specialized in emergency and critical care. We transport pediatric, adult and high risk obstetrical patients.

Information needed when calling to initiate a scene flight mission:

  • standby or dispatch status
  • location of incident
  • ground contact radio frequency
  • landing zone information
  • patient information as available

Information needed to initiate an inter-hospital mission:

  • receiving hospital
  • receiving physician (if non-Spectrum Health hospital is the receiving facility)
  • type and extent of illness or injury
  • treatment and diagnostics performed
